Animar, Soul of Elements - Commander (CMD)

Build an explosive creature-based Commander strategy with Animar, Soul of Elements from the original Magic: The Gathering — Commander (2011) release.

This Mythic Rare Legendary Creature — Elemental is the original CMD printing of one of Magic's most recognisable creature-focused commanders, combining protection, +1/+1 counter growth and powerful creature cost reduction.

For {G}{U}{R}, Animar begins as a 1/1 with protection from white and from black, giving it valuable protection against two of Magic's colours.

Whenever you cast a creature spell, Animar receives a +1/+1 counter. As Animar grows, creature spells you cast cost {1} less for each +1/+1 counter on Animar, allowing creature-heavy decks to rapidly accelerate into increasingly powerful plays.

Because Animar's cost reduction can become substantial as counters accumulate, the card is particularly effective in Commander strategies built around high creature counts, cast triggers, combo lines and large colourless components in creature costs.

As the original 2011 Commander printing, CMD #181 also carries additional appeal for collectors and players looking for the first standard-size printing of this iconic commander.
